Confession time--again!

My name is Becky and I am a nerd.

It feels so good to get that off my chest.

Actually I doubt that was a shocking confession for anyone...

but I felt I had to be honest.

I love books!

I love to read!

I read 1.5 books a week on a slow week.

I go to the library once a week-unless I can get enough books to last me longer---

I have a stack of books on my night stand, a stack in a basket downstairs and a book case full of books that I own.

I love reading kids books-I pick out books for Morgan just so I can read them to her.

Last week I read Koby's books before he read them.

When I find a book that I really like-I will re-read it. In fact I have some books I have read a dozen times. (it's amazing that the endings never change!)

Sometimes I will read the end of the book just to decide if I want to read it.

This one is pretty embarrassing---sometimes I will just look at my bookshelf and run my fingers over all the spines. I love the feel of books! I know... I am really messed up!

Yesterday I was talking to one of my friends and we started talking about books. I am embarrassed to say that I went home and picked out three books off my shelf and took them to her house about 15 minutes later. I hope she likes them! Sorry Emily I am totally a book nerd! And though I trust Emily with my books in a few weeks I will have a strong desire to read the one's she has and I will miss them!

So to sum this up-I am a book addict and I don't even want to get help! (unless help is in the form of book recommendations- I will take them!)

On the farm

Over the weekend Koby, Morgan and I got to go to my parents for a visit. For anyone who doesn't know my parents have a dairy farm. For me farm=work, but for the kids it is a huge adventure every time they go. There were four new kitties that got plenty of cuddle time...

Morgan had so much fun following my dad around everywhere-I started calling her Papa's shadow. Here are some random pictures of them helping at the barn.

My grandma was also there, we got to have a birthday party for her-she just turned 78! Morgan kept referring to the "grandma's". It was pretty darn cute. Koby got to help Papa do farm stuff Saturday morning and then Saturday afternoon Rick called and asked if Koby could come and play Wii with him. I'd have to say that both kids were very spoiled all weekend long. Saturday night we had a bbq and Rick & Tara (and their dog Tuff) came over-it was great to see them. But I had a brain fart and didn't take a single picture. Rick and Tara both looked so great-they look happy! I can tell that Rick is getting stronger and is trying to do a lot of new things. Then there is Tara-she is still super woman, the only person I know who can do it all and look great doing it! Anyway it was a great weekend and we had so much fun. We did miss Steve though so it was nice to get home on Sunday.

Confession

Steve and I are teaching our kids how to gamble...We have decided to have a March Madness wager. We each filled out a bracket sheet with our guesses for college basketball. I did have to help Morgan a little by asking her which team she thought would win.

Just so you know she is betting on Morgan State to take the whole thing-I am thinking it has something to do with their name?!

And now that you are worried about the fate of our children since they are gambling at such a young age-we are not betting with money.

If Steve wins then he gets a date with me (I think I really win on that one!), Koby has to play basketball with him and Morgan has to play a game with him.

If Koby wins we all have to help him with his chores and play outside together.

If Morgan wins then Steve has to fly kites with her, I have to take her to the playground and Koby has to play outside with her.

Now if (WHEN) I win, Steve has to give me a backrub, Koby will babysit for free for 2hrs and Morgan has to help me clean my room.

It was actually pretty fun so far...have't watched ESPN yet to see how anyone is doing but I'll keep you updated!

translator

On the way to church Morgan said the following-see if you can figure out what she was saying...

"I just saw an itchy-wa-wa and it was wearing a clo."

Before you scroll down to see the translation I'd really like you to leave a comment on what you think she means....

Answer:She was trying to tell us that she saw a chihuahua and it had on a shirt-guess if its not plural you can't say clothes...Koby used to say that too.

My babies...who aren't really babies!

The great performers!

Last night was a whirlwind of performances for us. Morgan had her dance recital at 5:00 and Koby had a school program at 6:30. They both did great and it was a lot of fun to watch them. Morgan was adorable-she loved the attention. I used the camera to video tape part of her dance-until I ran out of room on my memory card-the bad mom didn't prepare before hand-so then I hurried and deleted old pictures that I had already downloaded. Also because we were facing the wall of windows the video is pretty dark. Oh well...

The fifth grade program was great they did a brief US history through the 1900's It was cool to hear to them sing "old songs"-the one's I heard growing up. I kept trying to get Koby to smile but I think he was just too tired-this was their 3rd performance and he had been out really late the night before at a birthday party.(Koby is dressed in an orange shirt!)

A friend did this on facebook and I decided to do it too but post it here and in facebook because it was so darn adorable! 364 good days

This morning was awful! I really was ready to sit down and cry by about 9:15. Here's the play-by-play...

1.when we left home Koby slammed the door and broke our blinds
2.I thought I had left the curling iron on so I went back home to double check, it wasn't on
3. I was driving through an intersection-that had not been sanded or cleared at all!-I spun around, thankfully I didn't hit anything or anyone, but a mean police man gave me a ticket! He was very rude-said I was going too fast but I swear I wasn't going more than 5-10 mph-lots of other cars were swerving all over the road too! In fact I went slow enough that I made sure the car in front of me was two car lengths ahead.
4.One year ago today was when I got the call in the middle of the night about my brother's fall-so I was already emotional.

So I was throwing a huge pity party for myself and guess what my wonderfully sweet husband said...

I love you babe! At least you have 364 good days!

He is so right! In fact today is not so terrible. It's still a good day because I have so many great things going in my life, including you, Steve!

Great day!

Yesterday Koby brought home a note from his teacher...

dum-dah-dum-dum...

just kidding, of course Koby never gets in trouble at school! Actually because Koby scored so high on the state tests he was asked to join an enrichment class-they will meet once a week and it is supposed to challenge them. Koby said there are three kids from his class that get to go and ten total 5th graders-so out of all the fifth grade at his school he is one of the very smartest. He is pretty excited and I am definitely proud of him! Way to go Koby!

Last night Koby was at scouts and Steve was at the Jazz game so Morgan and I went out to dinner. We had so much fun! Morgan suggested a Chinese restaurant that I love. (and when we came in the waitress asked if I wanted the usual-I guess we go there far too often!)Morgan talked the entire time we were there and I was just amazed at all she had to tell me. It was great to see her as an interesting person and not just my little girl. My mind flashed forward 5, 10, 20 years. I hope that we can always go out and have fun together--I hope that when Morgan is a teenager she won't hate me so much that we won't be able to do girl bonding over Chinese food. I hope that after she is married that she will be able to find time to go out to lunch with her mom once in a while. And I hope that she remembers our time together with as much fondness as I do.

To cut or not to cut...

I am asking for your opinion and advise. Do you think that parents should decide on the length of their sons hair? I haven't decided what my firm opinion is. Do we just let him have it however he wants so that he has some control over his own life? So that he can make decisions for himself? Or do we force him to get his hair cut because we are the parents and we can? The whole 'live in my house, live by my rules' seems kinda ridiculous to me. I think I would rather pick my battles. But on the other hand I think he looks so much better with his hair cut. I get frustrated with his playing with his hair and I totally don't like the shaggy look. Steve thinks we should just make him cut his hair but Koby about cries when we mention it. What do you think is Koby's best look? Long or short?
long vs. short (notice Morgan sticking her head into the photo-she begged me to take another picture of just her-I did ofcourse.)

Still learning

Last night for FHE Koby had us share our favorite scriptures and explain why it is our favorite. Mine is John 14:27 'Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.' The reason it is my favorite is because the opposite of fear is faith. If we have faith in our Heavely Father then we don't need to fear anything. Even when we face challenges and trials everything will be fine if we have the Lord on our side. So I said all of this last night and then I didn't follow anything I said. I was very afraid this morning. I had gotten a call from my doctors office--they never call unless there is a problem with your test results. It has been a few weeks since I had my yearly female exam and they were calling to talk to me! Yikes! I immediately thought of cancer, not being able to have any more children, hysterectomy and death. I was fearing the worst. I got the message yesterday when I got home from work-so too late to call last night. I then called first thing this morning but had to call back since the nurse wasn't in yet. So after many hours of worry I finally got the news that there were some abnormalaties with my results but nothing serious-I just get to repeat the female exam in six months-can't wait for that fun time. The nurse even told me if it was serious they wouldn't be waiting 6 months for a repeat test. So I then become angry with myself for letting fear take over. I didn't even listen to my own talk about faith and trusting in Heavenly Father. What a great example I am to my children. I definately have a lot left to learn! I am committing myself this very moment to relax and trust in my Father that everything will work out just the way it is supposed to. E.W.O.P (everything works out perfectly)

Love to see the temple

On Saturday night we got to go to the Draper Temple Open house as a family. I wanted it to be special so that the kids would always remember it. So we left early and went out to dinner in our church finery. Morgan's favorite part was riding the bus from the church to the temple. I didn't take any pictures-not even of us dressed up. The picture above is from the LDS website. When we went it was dark and it looked so beautiful lit up on the hill. Both of the kids seemed to enjoy the tour. Morgan kept asking me if that was where Jesus lives. It was really cool to be seated in a sealing room with my children-I can't wait for the day that we will be there with their spouses-in a very long time! (cuz not only are they young-but so am I!)

Princess party

On Saturday Morgan has some friends over for her pretty pink princess party. I think they had fun-I hope they did! Below is a picture of Morgan waiting for her friends to come. She kept asking what was taking them so long to get there. Boy she was so excited.
I took this old tri-fold poster from Koby's science project and made it into a wishing well. The girls got to dip a little bucket into the well and it came out with a prize. We played pin the kiss on the frog, musical pillows, made wands and ate snacks. We also read pinkalicious and ate pink cupcakes. The girls were all adorabe and very well behaved.
