pictures from the last week

Why didn't you tell me?

I recently discovered Goodreads and I love it! Is everyone already using this? Am I the last person to utilize this amazing website? If you are slower than me on this check it out. www.goodreads.com

I am always looking for book suggestions and I love how I can add books I love and the computer generates similar books that I may be interested in. I also love how I can see what my friends are reading or their reviews.

I have spent a significant amount of time on this site in the last few days. I told Steve I had found a new love...

pics of my kids

Koby & Champions wrestling
(Not gang signs-they are saying Champions wrestling club with their hands)

Morgan's hair is long enough for ringlets again

Maylee is rocking out and crawling

I can't believe I am saying this but, notice how messy it is in the background of the middle picture, Maylee LOVES to spread all of her toys all over the floor.

Koby rocks!

This is Koby's first season of wrestling and he is doing so well! I can't believe how much success he has had. Not only is it his first season but also his first experience with wrestling in general. He has gotten several medals and has won a lot of matches. Here are some pictures. The quality isn't super great but oh well...

Koby has also done really well at keeping his grades up-I told him he couldn't even have any C's if he wanted to wrestle. That may seem harsh but he is a smart kid and school is usually pretty easy for him. He brought home his second term grades last night-he had 4 A's and 3 B+'s. Way to go Koby. We are very proud!

Smart girl

Last night we had Parent teacher conference with Morgan's teacher. She said that Morgan is at or above grade level in everything. Her reading skills are one of the things that are above grade level. I noticed that after they tested her reading recently that she went from a level D to a level H! (starts at A and goes until T-throughout elementary school.)

Morgan's teacher had such wonderful things to say about her. She does really well in spelling, math, very neat handwriting and a great reader. She is also very good at writing stories and is a great artist. Morgan is also very kind to everyone and is very good in class-she never has any problems with her.

I have always worried about not being able to let her go to preschool. When she was the right age, both Steve and I worked full time in a city about 20 minutes away from where her babysitter was. It was just impossible for us to figure out. So I did my best to work with her at home on my own. I got a little bit of help from my SIL, Mindy but I still felt pretty guilty.

Apparently I didn't need to. The funny thing is that she always tells people that she is so smart she got to skip preschool.

My advise to every parent is to tell your child that they are smart-help them to believe it and they will live up to their potential. For some reason when I was in jr high/high school I thought that I was dumb and I got average grades-a lot of B's and C's. One day a guy that sat next to me in Biology asked me if he could cheat off of my paper. I asked, Why? He said because you are smart! I thought about that for a while and then my whole perception of myself changed. Hey I am smart! From that point on my grades became A's and B's. I was even on the dean's list in college! I graduated with a Bachelor Degree! I guess it just took having someone remind me of my potential.

We are so proud of you Morgan! You are so smart and wonderful!

Snow girl

We finally got some snow. Although I have actually been enjoying the warmer winter this year, Morgan was missing the snow. She loves it! As soon as she saw that it had snowed she was begging to bundle up and head outside to play. She built a snow-girl and made snow angels.

Later in the day we took Maylee outside to let her experience the snow too. She was not impressed. We put snow in our hands and let her touch it-once was enough for her. Maybe when she is older Morgan will convert her and we will have two snow girls.

Christmas 11

Normally we have Christmas morning at our own home, then in the afternoon we travel to my parents home and spend the rest of the day and the next few days with family. However this year we mixed it up. We went to my parents house before Christmas and got to have Christmas morning there.

For anyone who doesn't know, my parents own a dairy farm-which means that they have to get up early to milk cows. Most of their employees had the holiday off so mom and dad had to leave the house at 5:30. I knew that they wanted to see their grand-kids open their gifts but there was no way I wanted to get up at 5AM! And waiting until after church to open gifts seemed like a cruel way to torture the kids. So we compromised-we let the kids open their gift from Santa and look through their stockings before church and then they opened the rest with Papa & Gramma after church. I think everyone was happy. We did have to wake the kids up at 7:30 so that we could make it to church on time.

Stockings

The favorite gifts that I gave were:

*To Steve: a heart rate monitor watch that he had mentioned in June he would like. He was so surprised and I think he played with all the options for hours. For the past few hours he has worked hard at trying to get healthy and he loves any new gadget that helps in his pursuit.

*To Koby: a camera but I think his favorite gift was the MP3 player w/ attachable speakers that I allowed him to pick out for himself.

*To Morgan: art supplies. She is such an artist and that was her #1 request for Christmas. So I got a heavy plastic box-like container and filled it. She got markers, colored pencils, sketch pads, clay, paints, pencils, more paper and nice neat organizers for it all. She loved it!

To Maylee: not a favorite gift, just loved watching her pull on all the wrapping paper. She loved taking a little piece and shaking it while it unwound. She was so cute-loved the paper and boxes!
Christmas was pretty amazing! It was a lot of fun spending time together as a family. We also got to visit with my brothers and their families.

A new and improved baby

I have to admit that we are so blessed to have Maylee. First of all just to have a baby is quite the miracle-recently in our ward a sister had her twin babies about 16 weeks early and they didn't make it-how devastating that must be! So with that on my mind, I can't help thinking how blessed we are to have a beautiful, healthy sweet baby girl as part of our family.

Another reason I have been feeling so blessed is because Maylee is such a good baby-she is happy all the time and has such a great personality. Recently she had a little surgery to get tubes put in her ears and it is amazing how much better things have become.

First about the surgery...

Maylee is 9 months old and has had 5 ear infections and she didn't get her first one until she was 4 months old-which means 5 infections in 5 months! So even though Maylee was miserable and felt awful for most of that time she was still our sweet smiling little girl. After the 4th infection a couple of people told me that I should look into getting tubes put in. It seemed so scary to me. Maylee is so tiny and I didn't want my baby to have to have any type of surgery-ever! Let alone at the age of 9 months. As soon as the dr diagnosed the 5th infection I said-let's talk about tubes. Before I even left the parking lot I had an appointment set up to see an ENT specialist that very afternoon. At that appt we scheduled the surgery for days later.

I begged my nurse sister-in-law to reassure me that the procedure was simple and of course she did. Even though the surgery was fast there was still risk because she had to be sedated. So on December 20th we took her to the hospital bright and early (had to be there by 6AM!) and had tubes put into her ears. I only cried just a little-when they took my baby back into surgery and I was left standing there without her. She came back with tears and acting a bit loopy but otherwise I couldn't tell any difference. Later that afternoon she was already acting better and by a week later we could tell a huge difference. She started crawling a week after the surgery-I think the infections, dizziness and equilibrium finally stopped and she could finally do what she wanted. She has been talking a lot more-she chatters so much! I love just listening to her! She is even happier now than she was before.

I am so glad that we did the surgery-my only regret now is waiting so long! So even though Maylee was wonderful and perfect before she is now even better!
