More of Morgan's medical drama

I took Morgan into the doctor yesterday to have her blood drawn. Talk about a whole soap opera. She was so mad that I was making her do this that she refused to sit by me in the lobby while waiting for our turn. She sat on the other side of the room and turned her back to me. Whenever I tried to talk to her she would just say, "I'm mad!"

As soon as they took us into the room she started getting a little teary. When the nurse just looked at her arm to find a good vein she started crying. She didn't stop until after her arm was bandaged. She finally forgave me after I bought her some mini powdered donuts.

She didn't take off the bandages until she was able to brag about them to her friends. She told them all that she had to have a shot but it was a baby needle so it wasn't too bad. When I told her that she didn't have a shot but that they took out some of her blood she wanted to know when they were going to put it back in.

Considering all of these new weird things that she is having to do I understand why she is nervous and even upset. I just hope that we are able to figure out the problem and stop living in this drama.

Koby the baller

Last night Koby had another basketball game. Before it started a guy told us that Koby's team was going to get killed. The team they were playing against has won all of their games by about 30 pts or so. Even though Koby's team plays hard and most of the games are close, they have yet to win a game.

So last night, Koby played so well! He had about 10 steals during the game and he played defense so aggressively! Both coaches and all of his team members kept telling him how well he was playing. I think Steve was most proud of the fact that Koby got a foul. Apparently he told him before the game that it's ok to foul, just not too much and that he should play aggressively. Way to be obedient son! He is also a very good passer and is a decent shooter when he is willing to shoot.

With only two minutes left in the game, Koby's team was up by 2 pts and then it went downhill. As a very proud mother I believe that the team's downfall was pulling Koby out of the game at this point. The coach put his own son into the game and they never scored another point and had many turnovers. Sadly they ended up loosing by 8 points.

One other thing that I am proud of Koby about is his sportsmanship. There are a couple of guys on his team that have kicked the bleachers, slammed the ball, swore and pouted after all of their losses. Not my son-in fact I told him if he ever did something like that I would drag him out of the gym with by his ear. He just takes it all in stride and says that he had fun anyway and did his best.

We were so proud of Koby for playing so hard and really stepping up to help his team. Way to go Koby!

You want me to pee in that?!

This post may be TMI but it's also a bit funny. Read with caution!

For just over a month now Morgan has been having health problems. Weird health problems-she is completely fine and then she gets a fever for a couple of days. Then we think everything is fine and the fever comes back again. This has happened 5 times since Christmas eve. We have now been to the dr's office 3 times. She has been diagnosed with cold/flu,& ear infection but those are now clear and still the fever. In desperation I called the doctor and asked if we could do a urine test to look for any infection there.

I was not in my peak performance as a mother and therefore I neglected to prepare Morgan for what a urine sample required. Give me a break, I am very sleep deprived due to taking care of Morgan in the middle of the night, being pregnant and now I also have a cold!

Anyway she freaked out! She was so upset when I explained what she needed to do. She cried, ranted & raved. Steve said he heard her out in the hall yell, "Why do I have to pee in that thing?" We tried for about 10 minutes without receiving a drop. Finally I asked if we could collect the sample at home and bring it in. She had about 3.5 hours at home to complete her task. Let me just say more drama, complaining and moaning. "WHY? Why do you have to do this to me!?"

Finally after the 3.5 hours had expired and the lab was closed, she came out of the bathroom with a triumphant smile and said, "I PEED!"

This morning she was again upset because she didn't want everyone to have to see her pee. How embarrassing! The test came back clean so our next step is blood tests-I am planning to do a better job preparing her and am already thinking of things to bribe her with.

Smarty pants

Last week we met with Morgan's teacher for PT conference. I asked Morgan what her teacher was going to tell me. She said, "That I am smart!" And she wasn't kidding. Her teacher, whom we love, said that Morgan is doing great in school and learning so fast. Way to go my smart little girl!

We also got Koby's report card. All A's! And all of those A's required very little nagging on my part. By the time I get home from work and ask if he has homework, he either says no or that he all ready did it. Way to go my smart young son!

My parents are so awesome!

Remember my last post when I was complaining about having nothing ready for the baby? How I was kind of freaking out? Well thanks to my parents I am much less freaked.

My mom called me on Thursday morning and said that they were coming for a visit. I always love when they come! They arrived Thursday night and stayed with us until Saturday night. On Friday while Steve and Koby were camping, my dad and brother Matt went to a Jazz basketball game. Which left the women-folk free to have a girls night. Morgan had been promised Chinese food from her favorite place and we took my mom, Mindy and Peyton along with us. After we hung out for a while at my house. Then Morgan painted her nails and my mom's nails, (thanks for being a good sport mom!)and we watched Shrek.

During all of this I got out everything I had for the baby and wrote down what I had and what I needed. On Saturday my mom took me shopping! Morgan came along as well and Mindy was with us for a couple of stores. We ended up shopping for 5 HOURS! But now I am about 90-95% ready for the baby to arrive. Not only do I feel spoiled for the great things we were able to get but I loved spending time with my mom. I am even more excited now for our sweet little girl to arrive!

After all of the shopping I also got to sit and chat with both parents. Not sure why dad didn't want to go shopping with us!

Thank you mom & dad for your surprise visit-I had so much fun and I hope you did too. Mom, are you enjoying your newly pierced ears, too?

baby fever

First a confession.
I am kind of starting to freak out. Not a huge freak out, but big enough that I have decided it's time to act.

Our baby is due in 10 weeks. Also since both of my kids were born before my due date that makes it even less time until she will most likely arrive. I am thrilled to see her, hold and cuddle her. Definably excited to NOT be pregnant. But as usual I am not ready.

After Morgan was born we pretty much decided we were done having kids. So I didn't save any clothes-gave them all to my sister for her girls. Thankfully I did keep the big things like crib, high chair, play pen, etc. I have started compiling a list of all of the stuff we need and the list is HUGE! We decided it was best to wait until after Christmas before buying all of the stuff we need. I am so grateful to friends and a great sister-in-law for some great hand-me-downs, so my preparation doesn't look as small.

So anyway, on Saturday we did a little shopping for our baby girl. Morgan and I picked out a few outfits, a bathtub, bouncer and a diaper bag. Later that night Petyon came over to hang out for a while. The girls had so much fun with the baby stuff. Morgan got out a few dolls, they dressed them in the new clothes, put them in the bouncer or bathtub and had a good time being mommies. Peyton also really enjoyed laying in the tub herself. She would lay back, cross her legs at the ankles and put her hands behind her head. It was so cute!

So anyway, I will be fine just need to keep taking deep breaths and go shopping a little more frequently.

Whats up with Koby?

Right now Koby is keeping busy with basketball season. He has played two games, sadly both losses but it's pretty great to see how much he has improved since last year. In the first game he had several steals and in the second he scored 4 pts, had a few steals and several assists. It is so hard for me to get good shots of him playing so bear with the bad photography. He is #19! It is also crazy how tall he looks around his team mates. In the past he was usually one of the shorter kids on his teams, this year there are only a couple of kids taller than him.

Also Koby was recently called to be the Deacon quorum president. He was set apart on Sunday and has been praying about his counselors. I am sure that he will do an amazing job-he has really good leadership skills and this will help him improve them.

Steve and Koby are looking forward to the Klondike camp out. I am just grateful that I don't have to go camping in the snow and frigid cold! I love my warm, soft bed.

Koby only has three more days left in the term and as of right now he has all A's. He has improved his procrastination a bit from last term. This time around he will only be doing ONE report the night before it's due, rather than two.

Newest little Zabriskie

Our family is now larger. On Saturday we brought home a new family pet. I am a total sucker for pets that people don't want anymore. That is how we got our dog and now how we got our turtle.

We told the kids on Friday night that we would be getting a new pet, and then tried to get them to guess what we were getting. I told them "Bigger than a fish, but smaller than a cat." Koby guessed, "Catfish?" After a good laugh they finally guessed right (with a few more clues).

Morgan is a bit afraid but is still trying to be a good owner. I think she sat and talked to "speedy" for about a half an hour.
Look at Morgan at the edge of picture-she wants to be brave but is still a bit apprehensive.

When Peyton came over she just kept saying, "Turtle gonna get you!" The best part is that the turtle was asleep most of the time that she was at our house.

My brain

I think I am a pretty smart woman. I have a degree, I love to read and learn new things. I am pretty open minded. I google anything I don't know. I am organized-maybe a little too organized (OCD), have a decent memory and functioning brain. I memorize numbers often without trying (like my driver's license number). People ask me questions when they don't know the answer.

I may not be the smartest cookie in the cookie jar but I have always thought that I was at least a step above the crumbs.

However, pregnancy changes all of that for me. Lately I feel like my brain has taken a nap and has left me on my own. First I can't remember ANYTHING! I have to make lists just to remember something the very next day. And then I can't remember where the list is so I end up with 4-5 lists with a lot of things on every list. Next,I start talking and half way through the sentence I can't remember what I was saying. I also repeat myself A LOT since I can't remember if I ever finished my sentence.

Here are a few examples of my foggy brain...

On Monday I took Morgan to the doctor. I remembered that I parked right in front of the building. So when we came out, I went right up to the van and was trying to get in. The key didn't work-which wasn't too alarming because lately the driver's side door was frozen and I would have to go in through another door. So I went around and tried to get in on the other side. No go. At this point I was beginning to panic. I had my sick little girl standing there in the cold and no way to get in the car! Finally I looked a little closer and thought, man those locks look different than I remember. You guessed it! NOT MY CAR! Later when I told Steve he asked me if it was the same year as our mini van (not that I would know that anyway!)I said, I don't even think it was the same model or make! It wasn't even the same color as our van!

I have caught myself putting the salt and pepper shakers in the fridge.

On Sunday I prepared our dinner. A roast with potatoes and carrots. I stuck it in the oven and went off to a planning meeting. About two hours later I came home and Steve said, "Honey, you forgot to turn on the oven. I just turned it on 10 minutes ago." So instead of a nice warm dinner ready in another hour, it was going to be about three more hours until it was ready.

I went to return the movies and pick up a few things at the store. Got half way to the store and realized that I didn't have the movies and that the gift card I was planning to use was at home along with the list of things to get!

While planning our RS meetings for the next 6 months I scheduled a meeting on February 23rd and didn't even remember that it's Morgan's birthday!

So if you see me walking around with drool dripping from my lips and a glazed look in my eye, please don't try to have me committed. It's really just a temporary illness that I like to refer to as 'pregnancy mush brain'. Please tell me that it isn't just me that experiences this!
