You've got mail!

A few weeks ago we had a family home evening about showing/sharing love for your family members. One of my friends had given me a great idea of doing a little mail system in our own home. (Thanks Robin!)We each decorated an envelope with our name, stickers, art work, etc and then hung them on our bedroom doors. We have been writing short notes and sticking them in each others "mail boxes". It has been so fun! Morgan tends to write several notes for each of us everyday-her handwriting and sounding out words skills have really improved. Koby's letters to us are a bit more infrequent than Morgans but they really make the receiver very happy!

Sometimes it is easier to express ourselves with a pen and paper than with our voices. I think our little activity has helped us to grow closer to each other.

All of this talk about mail made me think about one of my best friends who lives many states away. And as strange as this may seem-her name is also Becky-and no she is not an imaginary friend! We met when we were in 9th grade-we both lived in Idaho for about a year and then moved to different states-me back to Utah and her to Washington. We never lived in the same state again. We have only been able to see each other about once every 4-6 years and somehow our friendship has lasted. Another weird thing about our friendship is that I think we have only talked on the phone once in the last 19 years (Please stop doing the math to figure out how old I am!) Becky is the one friend that I can always confide in, she understands me and I know that she is always willing to support and listen to me.

All through high school and our early 20's we communicated by mail (AKA-snail mail)to each other. I loved opening the mailbox and seeing her writing. Then came the huge technological advance of email. It was so nice to be able to hear from Becky faster and more frequently. We communicated this way ever since then. She is truly my best friend and I love getting mail from her. I don't know if our friendship is so good because of us only communicating in this manner or what but that probably has something to do with it. There is something about being able to sit down and pour out your soul without interruption and a delete button.

My two stars!

First the scout star...

Koby recently received two more merit badges and a rank advancement-he is now an official "STAR"! Way to go Koby. He is currently in the process of earning at least four more merit badges. Steve is such a great scout leader-at the recent court of honor they gave out around 55 merit badges. Way to go scoutmaster Steve!

Then on to the soccer star...

Morgan is playing girls soccer this fall. She is lucky #7-blue jersey with the florescent pink shin guards. This is the first year that her team has not been co-ed. She loves the sport and we have enjoyed watching her play. She is on a really great team and they have not lost a game yet. Her schedule keeps us really busy though-she plays twice a week and practices once.

I love both of my super stars!

Fall 11 pictures

On Sunday I piled everyone into the car and we took a drive to SF. Once there I turned my children into models and took ALOT of pictures. I decided to post my two favorite of each child! Hopefully that will reduce the feelings of being overwhelmed with pictures.

1st day of school...kind of

Koby leaves the house at 7AM to catch the bus so I got up early on the first day so that I could take a picture(s), but when I went to download them I saw that all of the pictures were extremely blurry-so much to his displeasure I told him I would need to take another picture on day 2. Sadly he left the house before I got to the camera-so technically this is day 3 of Koby's 8th grade year.

Morgan also started 1st grade and she was so excited that she wanted me to take more than one picture! She loves eating at school, more recesses, seeing all of her 1st grade friends and that her teacher is so nice.

Maylee didn't start school (of course!) but she is so darn cute that I have to take and post pictures! Here are a few of my favorites...

Pregnancy place?

Recent convo with Miss Morgan:

Morgan: Dad told me that when he is 50 I will get to go that pregnant thing like you.
Me: Pregnant thing?
Morgan: Yeah, you know that place you go when you are pregnant.
Me: I am not sure what you are talking about.
Morgan: YOU KNOW, like where you go at church.
Me: Do you mean relief society?
Morgan: Yeah.

It's true that a lot of the women in our ward are pregnant but that is not a requirement! I laughed so hard.
